Perceptions do influence reality greatly. But in the end, blue is still blue and red is still red. Unless you're color blind of course..lol. This goes along with the question "If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it...does it still make a sound?" Very deep question though, thanks for making me think for a minute.

Hi!

Start with the idea that reality is a consensus of perceptions. In other words, if the larger number of people can agree that grass is green when healthy, that 1+1=2, and gravity is a constant we cannot ignore on the Earth's surface, then these consensus of perceptions constitute the "reality" we know. One's perceptions of reality can only go so far... I might convincingly hallucinate the ability to fly, but, unless I am aided by a real hang glider, parachute, or other functional aircraft, I will only succeed in becoming a splat of jelly on the ground... Thereupon, my peers will arrive at the consensus of perceptions that invariably lead them to conclude that I was either insane or stupid, because, don't we all know that a human cannot fly unaided? You would then conclude that some headaches are terminal. You and your peers would be engaged in "reality" as we know it... The operative word being, "we".

If we perceive things will be exist. It means perceptions are the cause of existence. If there are no perception nothing will be persist. Consequently, a perception is reality and existence is its phenomena. When a person die his perceptions at once be ended with him, whole world even exist by other but for him vanished with him. So perceptions are reality and things just phenomena.

I would like to answer this in as short a response as possible. I will also attempt to simplify the terms for clarity.

Consider "Perception" as you "taking in" reality through all of your senses; your perceptions are different from others based on your personal beliefs.

Reality is created by you, your energy and the energies en-masse of all others; this has a grounding effect, in a sense by two primary causes; one, is your focus in on the "physical life" you have engauged in, the second in the energy used by you is massive, in this sense as it takes "all you have" to remain grounded in this reality;

this was not the original intent, but has become the exception.

Consider, time, solid substance of "Earth" the facade of your, our, reality as it is formed by you and I in agreement.

Beyond and into the 'afterlife" are countless realms of existence with endless that are ever growing.

This is the nature of reality.

if everything is perception then reality is perception. the matrix triology touches on this very question. our perceptions influence how we react to a shared reality. so reality can be precieved in different ways but they aren't different enough to cause people not to understand one another when speaking of them in daily conversation.

I believe that in principle your assumption is correct.

I also believe that reality is whatever we collectively agree on as being reality..or as being validated by our collective experience of it..

There appears to be some magical 'break even point' where we come to an agreement (or compromise).

If I were to guess, I would say that this 'break even point' (point of 'tension') is created (motivated) by mutual purpose and desire.

The only part of your assumption that I would ask you to re-consider and/or re-evalute is, is the possibility that reality is a result of the SIMILARITIES in those perceptions (experiences, etc.) rather than the 'differences'

...or that reality is a result of our willingness and/or ability to subordinate (lay aside) those differences in perception for some 'greater good'.

perception is not reality, reality is truth. perception is how we interprete this truth in our own minds. since everybody is different people will have different perceptions on reality, some people will see it for what it is & some people have no sense of reality at all.

In vasolina, psychology and the cognitive sciences, perception is the process of acquiring, interpreting, selecting, and organizing sensory information. The word perception comes from the Latin perception-, percepio, , meaning "receiving, collecting, action of taking possession, apprehension with the mind or senses." --OED.com. Methods of studying perception range from essentially biological or physiological approaches, through psychological approaches through the philosophy of mind and in empiricist epistemology, such as that of David Hume, John Locke, George Berkeley, or as in Merleau Ponty's affirmation of perception as the basis of all science and knowledge. Reality in everyday usage means "the state of things as they actually exist."[1] The term reality, in its widest sense, includes everything that is, whether it is observable, comprehensible, or apparently self-contradictory by science, philosophy, or any other system of analysis. Reality in this sense may include both being and nothingness, whereas existence is often restricted to being (compare with nature). Compare the two and you will have your answer.

Perception forms reality. Quantum Mechanics tells us that all probabilities exist until one reality is chosen by the observer. The observer forms reality.

There is a larger reality that is formed by the collective consciousness, and your personal reality formed by your own consciousness. In the end, you choose your experience - you are a co-creator of your life.

I think you answered your own question. Please don't get a headache! Philosophically, there is no ABSOLUTE reality. Perception cannot alter it, except to the person who perceives. Yet, there is nothing to alter--since "reality" is nothing but subjective perception. There is NO "fact" regarding reality. & please, if I pound my fist on the table & it feels solid & resounds, this is a weak analogy I've often been given. Don't want to be trite, but think "outside of the box."

We view reality egocentrically. It is the only point of view we have. Science endeavors to delineate reality with constants for us all. This is very difficult when you get to the infinitely small where even the act of observation is sufficient to influence what you observe. The only certainty we have is what remains constant for everyone. But, in ascertaining these constants requires communication which has its own inherent limits.

I feel your pain. I don't think that there truly is a "reality." In essence it IS just a form of perception.

Cogito ergo sum (Rene DesCartes). Consciousness is reality, but all consciousness can be collective just as the unconscious. (Carl Jung) All reality is intensively intersubjective (Martin Heidegger), I perceive things as they present themselves to my consciousness and they take on reality as they are framed in language and expressed. It is in the realm of language that perceptions mesh, ideas have historicity and intentionality.

From a sociological perspective, specifically utilizing the symbolic interaction theory, individuals each have their own perceptions of social reality, i.e., what is perceived to be real, is real in its consequences. Hope this helps you. :-)

Perception is reality.

We all have different perceptions; therefore, a different reality.

Reality is what enough people agree it to be. for instance, money- it only has value because so many people believe it does.
2007-06-04 09:13:42 UTC
Reality is fact. Perception is how we interpret fact.
