i have a question about the whole matrix theory........?

its called skepticism or solipsism. but they both are basicaly stating the whole matrix thing.

but people say that you can never truly know that your life is real. and that there is no true evidence. however there are many philosophies and books that show that external world scepticism such as the matrix idea is actualy a self defeating and self refuting idea. example of arguments are things like the private language argument and stuff like that. there is even a book about the matrix and matrix philosophy that show that its self refuting. and if the matrix theory is wrong then so is solipsism ans skepticism.

so with this in mind showing that these concepts are not only highly unlikely, but also self refuting how can it be said that we can never truly know? is it because we can never experiece what other people are and you can only be you? why is it deemed as something humans can never truly know?

It depends how you define knowledge. There are quite a lot of theories of knowledge, but the one involved here uses total CERTAINTY as the criterion. In other words, you only count as knowing something if it's not POSSIBLE to doubt it. It doesn't matter if it would be stupid to doubt it or if you don't actually doubt it or if it's ridiculously unlikely. The idea is, if there were a gazillion possible worlds, and in just ONE of those worlds what you believed was not true, then your belief doesn't count as knowledge.



Some people would say that a theory like puts the onus of proof much too far on one side. But then other people (like Bertrand Russell) say that all we need to act is well-justified beliefs: we don't "need" knowledge anyway.

They're not quite the same thing. Solipsism says there is (or may well be) nothing beyond you, but the matrix idea is that there is a whole real world beyond you, it's just different than what you think it is.



Solipsism is self-defeating if it insists that for certain there is nothing beyond you, but not self-defeating if it merely argues that no knowledge is ultimate, but simply provisional or probable.

The arguments that you read about solipsism and the matrix that refuted them are themselves refuted by other ideas. That's why we say you can never truly know.

We are not talking about the human realm in here, but even if we were - i am sure we will never hit on the nail ever!

These concepts will never be known, way to many realms to deal with and to begin with the fact that we dont even UNDERSTAND our own!

we can never really know what is real and what is not. from my opinion i exist so therfore i'm real but how can you be sure of someone else's existance.
