Why do we continue to pretend that Islam is a religion of Peace? I submit the following from the koran.?

[3.151] We will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve, because they set up with Allah that for which He has sent down no authority, and their abode is the fire, and evil is the abode of the unjust.

[4.89] They desire that you should disbelieve as they have disbelieved, so that you might be (all) alike; therefore take not from among them friends until they fly (their homes) in Allah's way; but if they turn back, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them, and take not from among them a friend or a helper.

[5.33] The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His apostle and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous chastisement,

[8.12] When your Lord revealed to the angels: I am with you, therefore make firm those who believe. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them.

[8.39] And fight with them until there is no more persecution and religion should be only for Allah; but if they desist, then surely Allah sees what they do.

[9.5] So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, leave their way free to them; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

[9.29] Fight those who do not believe in Allah, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Apostle have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book, until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection.

[9.111] Surely Allah has bought of the believers their persons and their property for this, that they shall have the garden; they fight in Allah's way, so they slay and are slain; a promise which is binding on Him in the Taurat and the Injeel and the Quran; and who is more faithful to his covenant than Allah? Rejoice therefore in the pledge which you have made; and that is the mighty achievement.

Now tell me that Islam is a religion of peace.

I have had friends of all walks of life, and many different religions.

First off yeah... there are quotes like that in the Koran, but there many things in the Bible that could be used to argue that Christians are violent. And based on historical facts, Christians have been known to be violent as well.

I will not sit here and say one religion is better then another, because it is the person that holds the religion that chooses to make it good or bad. There are Jews, Muslims, Atheists, and Agnostics that I have met that are all very good people. Don't judge the religion, judge the person.

For the person that said that Islam took the best parts of the Bible... correct me if I'm wrong, but I am sure that Islam is an older religion then Christianity.

Let me be abundantly clear. I am not saying ALL Muslims are good, but I am equally saying that not ALL Christians are good. The same goes for every religion, and the same for those that have no religion. If anyone has a problem coming to terms with the fact each "personal philosophy" has had its share of people casting negative light on said group, then go ahead and give me a thumbs down, you are just exhibiting a narrow minded mentality. I just merely am stating that the posters "question" is narrow minded, and that he should realize that every group is equally good, and equally bad. And just for the record I am not Muslim, I just am mature, and wise enough to know that there are good people that are Muslim, and that it is the radicals that make everyone look bad.

Did the missioneris spread christianity without violence? Instead of studying the Holy Quran with malignant motive of criticising muslims, read history or ask the old men and women in Goa, India, as to how their ancestors were converted to Christianity by the missioneries? Islam is a religion of peace. No doubt about it. However Islam is not a religion of cowards and hypocrits. What you have mentioned are Ayats out of context. Read the Quran as a whole. It conveys peace.Of course peace not at the cost of self respect.Follow the instructions of the Gospels strictly and there will be no difference between you and muslims. Had the early Christians not been cowards and hypocrits and had they faught for preserving the true Gospels as handed down by Jesus(pbuh) then Christianity would not have been the hotchpotch in which it has landed itself and it's billions of followers.For your info Islam is nothing but a group of early Christians who faught with their lives to preserve the truth. You need to differentiate between the religion and its adherents. As has been pointed out above, most of this stuff can be found in the Torah and the Bible. Have you ever tried speaking with a fanatic in the Bible belt? Ever considered Israeli actions in Jerusalem vis-a-vis the Muslim perception of Israeli occupation. Its the principles of eminent domain and King of my castle juxtaposed with a battle over a finite resource - Land. As Churchill said those many moons ago when denouncing Hitler's nazism "The greatest battle of the 21st century will be the battle for the minds..." That battle continues in earnest today.
