Question:
Did humans make God in their image, or did God make humans in his image? (kind of opinion)?

In other words, did we create God in OUR image or vice versa?

Creationists believe God created us in his image... but if you go to google images and type in "God" you see a man with a beard. Looks pretty human to me, aside from descending from the clouds.

Bingo! Humans created "God" in their own image.

I believe there is definitely a higher power or force in the universe. There is some kind of "cosmic consciousness" or something and many of us feel that.

But I do think that the whole story of God was an attempt to make people understand the force in a way they could relate to, as a sort of big Grampa in the Sky who watches over them. Thus, bad things can be explained by Grampa getting grumpy over the naughty children's behavior, and all the children could be basically terrified into submission to the rules (as defined by men) about what is good and what makes Grampa very angry.

If you are good, you go to Grampa's special playground of happiness, but if you are bad, you go get a spanking the likes of which you cannot imagine.

This is a concept all people can understand, and if they will buy into it, it gives the church (and politicians) a hell of a lot of power.

Amazingly enough, people are still buying into it today - but there are also an increasing number who are finding that source of power and joy outside of the whole "God" story.

After much contemplation here's my answer to your question that might just be unique. God created humans in God's image (not to unique is it, but there's more). God's image can be found in the "truth" that there is always a "truth" that is beyond all "truths."

[Kurt Godel published a theorem that demonstrated that any formal number-theoretic system, if consistent, contains an undecidable formula; that is, a formula that can neither be proved nor disproved. In other words, Godel’s theorem tells us, “that it is self-contradictory to suppose that mathematics can be proved free from self-contradiction—that, in fact, there must always be true but unprovable theorems” (Pledge, 1959, p. 190).]

Now, replace the idea of Godel's theorem with the idea of "self." Self image is obviously made from the "stuff of truth," but it is at times self-contradictory, cannot be proved, and is always incomplete. On the other side of the mirror you are looking at the face of God. Thanks for the question.

Humans make God in their image, or I would say instead that humans envision God in their image because they don't know what God actually looks like. The images of God or religious figures provide comfort to people (hard to find comfort in a big blob of light or whatever God really is), just like Satan is usually pictured as ugly and nasty as the artist can possible make him or deceptively normal looking.

An all pervading, timeless Entity cannot have boundaries. Any shape has physical dimensions and an outside and an inside, which does not tally with the definition of God in any religion.

So all images of God are man made.

There is no God.

It is something imaginery created by man. Thus it is a kind of psychological sickness.

( we dont describe it as a psy. sickness because they are majority. Like "love", some mental problems are believed billions, which turn them into a "normal" suddenly. When everyone is mad in a society, they are normal you are not.)

Know this inside, then believe or not.

Certainly man created God in his image. If you believe in God no living being has seen him,so as we think of ourselves as the Top of creation (hm) it is logical to represent him in our form.
