“There are some things which cannot be learned quickly and time, which is all we have, must be paid heavily for their acquiring. They are the very simplest things and because it takes a man’s life to know them the little new that each man gets from life is very costly and the only heritage he has to leave."

- Ernest Hemingway, Death In The Afternoon

“Do you love life? Then waste not time – for it is the very stuff of life.”

- Benjamin Franklin

“Time is the school in which we learn

That time is the fire in which we burn." Delmore Schwartz, Calmly We Walk Through This April's Day

All three have had an impact on me at one time or another though probably the Hemingway quote the most in that, when I first read the lines, I first felt the press of time upon me - the realization that I did not have `forever' to do what I wanted to get done in life. The Delmore Schwartz quote just added weight to that `press' and moved me onward and the Franklin quote keeps me steady.

I am influenced a lot by Jesus, but not at first. Regardless of what we believe, we are influenced by others. In my early years as a Christian I was like you were. I had a particular theology, and anybody who contradicted me was wrong. People who are influenced by man will act that way, and they will drive people away. They are probably the reason why you don't believe today, even though you don't realize it. There were probably errors in their theology that you mistook as proper Christian belief, knowing that it was wrong. I continued like this for a lot of years, but about six years ago I had an epiphany, that caused me to press into The Lord. Now I am more interested in a relationship with him than in theology. This is when He starts influencing a person. Then if we press in enough we start seeing the signs, miracles and wonders that he promised us. I have started seeing these, and I am well influenced. I now know by experience that he is real.

I liked the first one before it was in classrooms

"Stand up for what you believe in, even if you are standing alone."

"We are all the same, human in all our ways." - Good Charlotte

"Are you gonna walk through life, or are you gonna run?" - Anonymous

"Every man thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself." - Leo Tolstoy

"We are the change we wish to see in the world" - Mahatma Gandhi

"I am woman, hear me roar...or is that my vacuum cleaner?" -?

There's more, but all those have made me think, laugh, cry, or wonder at some point in my life. I actually cant remember my very super fav, the one that changed my life when I was 13! how ironic.

"Life's not a spectator's sport. If all you're gonna do is sit and watch, you're gonna watch your life go right on by without you."

That was something Laverne, a gargoyle, said in Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

from emptiness, fullness is drawn.

This quote puzzled me when I was 16 years old. Throughout the years, it never failed to be proved true.

Lincoln:

This country with it's institutions belong to the people who inhabit it, whenever they should grow weary of the existing government they shall exercise their constitutional right to dismember or overthrow it.

I may have missed one word going by memory here.
