Question:
Western Culture has now become global culture through the freedoms of the internet - agreed or not?

I listen to a podcast called "The History of Rome" - it's absolutely superb in the storytelling of how a backwards tribe of brutal Romans became the cosmopolitan civilizing force of the known world.

Unfortunately, now I feel like a man with eyes among the blind. I can see how the West has liberalized every nook and cranny of this planet with capitalist democracy. In my short lifetime alone the number of capitalist and/or democratic countries has literally tripled and quadrupled. It is remarkable to see. But we run the risk of over-reaching.

I can also see how a broad democracy cannot hold up against tribal cultures or guerilla attacks. Rome failed to secure her victory over the Germans in 14 AD, and as a result English and German remained un-latinized for another 1000 years, and the Northern border on Rome remained open. Likewise, the West has failed to secure her borders in China and the Middle East and Central Asia.

Will global democracy lack the will to guard the borders from the barbarians? Has Western culture the valor to protect herself from threats? Or, will democracy itself have to go before the West becomes stable again?

You are asking more than one question. 'Western Culture has now become global culture through the freedoms of the internet - agreed or not?' 'Will global democracy lack the will to guard the borders from the barbarians? Has Western culture the valor to protect herself from threats? Or, will democracy itself have to go before the West becomes stable again?'

Democracy is not a nation nor an entity in its self. What are you talking about. Democracy is not even a single concept but an essence of a concept that has many possibilities. If any thing your question is symptomatic of de-culturalization because it lacks identity.

'I can see how the West has liberalized every nook and cranny of this planet with capitalist democracy. In my short lifetime alone the number of capitalist and/or democratic countries has literally tripled and quadrupled. It is remarkable to see. But we run the risk of over-reaching.'

I certainly hope not. Western culture is no more sacred than any other culture.

Barbarian means non Greek speaker by the way.

The Romans actually more or less gave up Rome by default and moved to Byzantium.

It is always a bad idea to have 1 empire and 2 leaders, it is also counterproductive to

populate your army with the opponent-especially when it is done because the citizens

sell their compulsory military service to them.

I think the homogenizing of the human race is a travesty, Other cultures trying to survive. The West should stop impeding that.

The number of cultures and languages that have become extinct in just the last 25 years is appalling.

The internet is a poor replacement for actual culture.

I think the Western Culture is becoming more aware of other cultures, and could develop appreciation.

also China, The Middle East, Central Asia is a huge portion of "the globe" if you leave that section of the world out--then how is the west culturally dominant?

as far as the internet goes:

"...Remember when you look long into the abyss,

the abyss looks long into you.."

The thing you seem not to have paid attention to is power. For democracy to thrive it needs to be protected from other forms of ideology which grow from the freedoms available in a democracy.

So what you need to understand is that democracy is an ideal but it can be misused or power fallsl in the wrong hands unfortunately when this happens there ends up another ideology that will take over. The question is which ?

Right now it seems all fine and dandy but we are far from out of the woods yet. We'll see how it goes.

Civilizations leave their footprints behind. Whichever way things work out, I believe modern western culture for all its failings will leave something positive behind as well. Maybe another 1000 years will pass, but I hope future generations, likely in a global reality long by then, will improve upon previous civilizations, rather than starting from scratch with "stone knives and bearskins". And needless to say, tools of global/mass communication certainly will play an influential role, hopefully to the benefit not detriment of all. Envisioning the sunny future, after the fierce storms pass. Regards, Pat.

Meh... i did not like the mixing of religious and medical ideals interior the Western Philosophy factor... you may might desire to wreck it down extra to fairly learn something... as an occasion... under "seek for fact & trouble-free learn," it says that Western Philosophy (A term which Encompasses the two Christianity and Atheism right here article), believes, "the fact desires to be shown. The philosophic base for and way of life of trouble-free learn is greater suitable." whether, isn't this the factor (between different factors) the place Christians and Atheist tend to variety? i don't see this as an exceedingly precise depiction of Western Philosophy whilst it is composed of Spirituality AND medical diagnosis under one Philosophy...

Barbarians? Really, Barbarians? What makes a culture "barbarian?" Why is it necessary to sterilize an entire culture? The west has no superiority, in government, culture, or idealism. Get out of here with your imperialist bull.

I don't know that the internet should be blamed for this.
