but after watching an episode of through the wormhole with Morgan Freeman where this was talked about they shows a few scientists who work with computers.
one scientist who believes robots can feel emotions built a small robot that does feel.
if he taps it hard on the back with his pen the robot will move away and say ''pain bad'' and if he rubs it on the top it probably say something like ''comfort good''
what he did next was put something that look like a green battery in front of the robot and smacked it.
he put a blue battery in front of it and rubbed it.
so after a few times doing this when ever he puts anything green in front of the robot it will say '' green bad''
and when it is blue it will say ''blue good''
so already this robot has something similar to pain and comfort. i am not sure if it actually feels pain but i found myself thinking when he smacked the robot that it might have been cruel of him to do that and i find it weird to think that because on one hand it is just a computer can it really feel pain like us but on the other hand if it is built to feel pain and comfort and is terrified when it sees something associated with pain then it must actually be in pain.
an other scientist and robots of his did a language based test.
somehow he got them to create their own language that he and us can not understand.
he had 2 robots stand in front of each other and they starts talking and he noticed one robot was giving other commands.
the robot giving the commands had spent that day look at itself in a mirror moving it's body around.
so when this robot stood in front of the other it would say something and the other would move an arm or something and the 1st robot would either shake it's head and the 2nd would move again until the 1st robot would nod.
so the scientist did it with himself and he found out one word meant move your arm the other meant move both arms and so on.
so what this shows is the robots have in some way become self aware the robot knew it was itself in the mirror and was asking itself questions like is this my arm and can i move it and after learning this it would go to it's friend robot and show it how to move and the 2nd robot would be able to learn.
so are these examples that prove robots are already alive like us and by us i mean organic life.
like an ant can feel pain it knows what to avoid that will bring pain it can learn and ants can talk to each other. they are intelligent and alive they are no where near as smart as us but we consider them alive and be considered cruel if we were to do something to bring them pain.
basically what we are witnessing is something like a new breed of life. it is kinda like we went back in time to watch the 1st humans learn how to talk and such.
so again in the case for these 2 types of robots the one that feels and the ones that talk would you consider them alive even if they are on the same level of intelligence as a bug
