Jesus invites us to put down our heavy burdens of pain and fear and guilt (ironic I'm quoting Ayn Rand here). He appeals to our egos -- we think we might be up to carrying his burden. In Buddhism, the proud youngster, wannabe boddhisattva, says, "Sentient beings are numberless, I take a vow to save them all." Decades later he figures out the only sentient being he can save is himself, from his own egotism. Jesus has no burden. He's at peace, and invites us to join him.
