Why ask?
because we are curious about ourselves?
because we are in a constant state of conflict between reality and illusion?
because we want to know if our cosmical existence on earth is as meaningfull as the dust in the space, or even less?
What IS the ultimate meaning of questioning about meaning of existence?

does it even have any point in asking this question?

One thing for sure, that we all cease to exist at some point in our life and when that happens, does anyone thinks that your meaning of existence is a valid one? probably not...unless...

If you managed to leave a LEGACY and thus the meaning of asking meaning of existence is by analyzing one's lifecycle and to determine if sh/he/it had a legacy left behind for other's to remember for ages to come.

...does this sounds more like a justice ends the mean? I believe

Hoa here cowboy.

Sorry;

But this sounds like a bunch of who shot John.

The ultimate meaning would be curiosity and not knowing where to look for the answers.

The meaning of existence is a very important question to ask. It should be asked after you define what existence is, and define what man is (including epistemology). After that you can ask what man should strive for (meaning of life) in this existence that you have defined. If we do not know what men should strive for how do we know how we should live-ethics,morality. How do we know if we should love, or how we should define happiness, or if we should even strive to be happy. How do we know that we should just not end our lives the first second we are consciously able to question it? Basically, every branch aside from metaphysics and epistemology is based on this question (ethics, politics, aesthetics). As i have said, once you have defined what existence is, and what man is, this meaning of life should come more naturally to you.

Fortunately to some questions are no good answers. We might get frightened to death.

I take what I have and make the best of it every day.

I am not that important that I need to leave a legacy. If it will be said that I always was fair that is enough for me.

The question was put in your soul by God so you would find Him. That so many people look to anywhere BUT God for the answer just shows how low we are.
