One cannot trust anything 100pc - but, having learned self-confidence, one can entrust oneself to what one chooses, knowing you can deal with the consequences. Trust, or entrustment, which are different from each other as a walking stick is different from an aeroplane, derive from evidence, experience, and/or reason. Both "Trust me" and "don't trust me" are unreliable because the speaker may be a liar - or not know their own strength. You can always trust people to do what they see as justified or permissible in their own interest (which allows for their ethics). So, for me, I give everyone "reasonable" trust as their due as a fellow human. It may be modified by observation, one way or the other. Similarly one might trust a quality tool, or boat. But entrustment is far more selective, given only to those tried and true who I know perceive my interests as their own.

Trust is based upon recurring experiences of the person. The sad thing is that a breach of trust can break all of the trust bank that you have stored up. This is what harms a lot of marriages. One wrong step and it crashes the trust bank to smithereens! Trust is something you do for you. Accepting that you may still get hurt you can't stop trusting or life's many, many lovely opportunities for happiness and pleasure disappear before you even have a chance to experience them. So unless it is a dangerous trust issue, relax and open your heart. I still think most people we meet are good people and one of the most important lessons you may learn is that someone stays with you because of how very good they feel about themseleves when they are there! If you focus on their enjoyment of their time with you, perhaps that trust issue will simple evaporate. Heh no one can get in between you and that person you want so badly to trust if you make their day one that is full of sunshine? EH? Keep the faith and be happier than your last foolish heartbreaker. It's not safe to trust onehundred percent all of the time, much of the time. I know it sounds horrible but I think that that little bit of distrust helps one with the unexpected. Like instinct does. Not wrong and shouldn't be offensive.



Most of us want that perfect one hundred percent trust. We may feel it sometimesss...in a moment. I know I do have that kind of trust for some, but I don't look at it as policy. LOL!No, it is special. Do I trust them one hundred percent reeeaaly? No. But its as close as Anyone should ever expect.



I am slow to trust people in some ways not so much in others. Experience has shown me it is not a good idea to write a blank check automatically and certainly not because someone 'tells' you to. LOL!



That does not mean I am not an open person! You weigh what you are willing to share and what it means to you based on your personal experiences. It varries with time and place and the 'vibe'



People have to earn a certain amount of trust from others. More important is if one trusts themselves. You can't make someone trust you. It is manipulative to try. Just be... and trust will come, when it does, be thankful when it is not dissapointed.

~~~ Sorry enki, I don't trust anybody 100% right off no matter what they tell me. In fact I usually think most people have ulterior motives for what ever they tell me and it's my job to figure out what their trip is. There's been very few people in my life that I have ever really trusted at the 100% status, and still I got burnt. So, I have to be kind of careful. As for me....well, I don't use those "Red Flag" words. I will however give you a choice of the truth or a "better sounding lie". Usually people choose the truth, even when I try to persuade them that they'd probably be able to handle a creative lie much better than the awful truth. My Mother always picked both and she always believed the lie. She said it was so outrageous it had to be the truth. So, I learned how to lie well as a child. I know this didn't help you, but ya wanna know the truth? Or a fantistic fib? I don't care. lol! ~~~

* question. Only becuz I have been reviewing some of the extended " What the bleep" did it actually dawn on me what the likely real answer is for me. On the surface, as mentionned elsewhere, the red flag would go up right away. The same if someone says honest!, honestly, and especially if they say " To tell you the truth", but that is not the question.



After considering the law of attraction, I realize that theoretically it should make a difference and lead me to trust you. Yet I have not observed myself experientially and my answer has to be a lie since I consider it a lie to give an answer that I have not verified as if I had verified it.

What is interesting here is that by rights even if you said don't trust me, I most likely would end up trusting. Someone should design a psychology experiment with this theme. Times like this I envy students.

Well, trust is something that has to be earned over time, you cant just out right trust someone. The actions of the person plus time, bc people have their ways of changing an showing their true colors. And to say trust or dont trust, what makes the difference is if I belive you or not

And you say "trust me" in my opinion that will make you look even shadier. If you said "don't trust me" well. I'm not too sure, it probably wouldn't really make a difference... but it might confuse me a bit or make me think.



And no, I don't think it's possible to trust ANYONE completely 100%.

Everyone has their secrets that no one else knows about, if the whole world told the truth about everything it'd be chaos.

People have to tell a few white lies, just even to avoid hurting others feelings.

To me, someone is trustworthy if I've known them awhile and they haven't talked behind my back, and we can confide in each other.

Second question first, please? Yes it is possible to trust 100%; trust is earned, trust is exprienced. Very rare! Now, if someone says, as they're dealing with something in which you haven't the greatest confidence will work, "Trust me" is like saying, believe that I know what I'm doing. Of course there are times when "Trust me" is so transparent it's laughable. "Just sign this & trust me!" For anyone to say to me, "Don't trust me"--that's quite a bit more complex. No further comment on that one here....

I see your point... but there are things in the bible that for me prove how real it is. For example it talks about the earth being circular and suspended in nothing. While everyone thought it was flat or held up by elephants, the bible had the truth all along. I don't just have faith, I also need to know, like any other logical person, that I'm not being blindly led into a lie.

I used to always say...never trust someone who says "trust me"



If you convinced me you are who you say and appear to be...I would trust that...but only because I was eventually convinced of it. The task would be easier in person than over the internet!!.=)



On the other hand, there is a depth to your questions and answers here on Yahoo...that as far as I have seen...I trust, and hold them dear.



If you told me "don't trust me" I wouldn't because it would seem like more of a truth...

I don't fully trust myself, either for that matter because I haven't experienced enough to know before hand what I would do in any situation I am not familiar with....don't get me wrong, I'm my own best friend...but, life's not over yet!

Trust is an investment... a choice in how to share yourself. If it is not something I am prepared to give... then you don't get! Is it possible to trust someone 100%? I don't think so, but our decisions could get us pretty close. I believe there is something inate in a human (survival instinct, perhaps?) that does not allow us to invest in another that fully. Full investment would require us to shut off our senses.



I determine a person's trustworthiness by their actions... a consistant demonstration of a person's words and declared beliefs matching what they do. If I see that person to be respectful of others, kind, empathetic, and accountable, then odds are I trust them. But then... sometimes something is just 'off'. Is it instinct? I'm not sure, but I tend to pay attention to my non-conscious choices as well.

By honoring the other's answer, we can move past our own insecurities in trusting others. Trust should always be the honor to the other's point of view, not by our judgements. If I didn't want to trust you it wouldn't make any difference for you to say "trust me" 'cause I wouldn't do what I don't want to do (unless it's in my best self-interest to do so). Sadly, the statement "don't trust me" would carry more weight.

Lack of trust, to me, is a function of ego. We fear being emotionally hurt. Refusing to trust is a dysfunctional way of protecting ourselves from hurt.

Reversing that, with the letting go of ego, it is possible to fully trust. As soon as you have no vested interest in the outcome the outcome no longer matters.

In dealing with individuals I believe that everyone deserves (is "worthy" of) my trust until they prove themselves to not be trustworthy. It's much less work and feels so much better to trust first than to harbor and nurse distrust.

Logically they are the same, if you say "Don't trust me" is that statement trustworthy? and should I not trust you or act contrarily on the assumption that you are bidding my trust.
