My day to day life has become monotonous,i don't see the meaning in waking up going to work and coming home and playing video games and drinking then going to sleep just to wake up and repeat it day after day. its not like i have a bad life, but is this really how its going to be for the rest of my life? i want to find a purpose in life, i want to do something that has meaning. I want to do something that is constantly changing. i want to wake up not knowing how the day will go. is this selfish or unrealistic? So if anyone here understands how i feel or knows a way to accomplish this, or already has, tell me what it is,is there anyone who knows how i can start making a difference, anywhere anything.

The meaning of life is within the moment of living it.

Try doing something everyday slightly differently instead of playing video games how about visiting a park go to the movie theatre or try helping you community by helping at a soup kitchen or join the big brother program. Also do something you would never do like talking to the quietest person in your office or do something thats crazy and go hangliding. You might meet new people you'll never forget.

Please don't think I'm searching into your post, but first off I would suggest seeking professional advice as to whether you feel depressed. Depression can sometimes be a precursor to feelings of monotony, soul searching etc. That ruled out, it may simply be that you've come to a cross roads in your life. I have been through a similar experience and read theoretical astro-physics, evolution and the Bible, and found the latter to be extremely helpful to help me find meaning. I know want to become ordained to help others in a similar position to myself. It may also be that you consider quitting drinking, change your hobby from video games, or even consider changing your job. Have you thought about doing some unpaid work for disadvantaged kids? Your thoughts certainly don't sound selfish or unrealistic, so persevere with what you feel is right for you. Good luck!

It is not selfish to do soul searching. With that said, no one can tell you the meaning to your life but yourself. People can guide you on different paths by which you can realize your potential though.

I feel as though what you're asking for isn't something that you "achieve." Because achieving something implies that there is a method and an end result. In terms of video games, what satisfies you the most, playing from the beginning to the end or playing to see the end? I personally love the journey, and in our mass-produced culture of the west, we are attached to the results we can achieve.

With all that is said, it is up to you to find out your happiness. If you want a good movie that might spark your interest in finding out what makes you happy, watch "The Peaceful Warrior." It's also a fantastic book.

Cheers. :)

Look within you and find out what YOU really want to do.

Sometimes we try to do something BIG, when it's the many small things that so many need help with. Start with everyone you pass on the street - Greet them with a "Good Morning, Afternoon or Evening" in a upbeat voice and watch the reaction. Putting a smile on someones face is easy and a gift. Find out if any of your neighbors need assistance of any kind.

I am a Disabled Veteran and do not drive so It's great to have people volunteer to drive us to the Veteran's Hospital or Doctors appointments.

Sometimes just taking me to the store is a blessing...

Contentment (also called complacence) is the neuro-physiological experience of satisfaction and being at ease in one's situation, body, and/or mind. In answer to the question, Yes. Not sure I agree with "also called complacence", but there it is. Admitting complacency seems a negative acceptance of things "just as they are" since changing would mean increased work or sacrifice. Contentment seems more of a positive acceptance "having everything you need" for happiness and satisfaction.

Have you discovered the world to be a carcass?

Perhaps you should take time to get to know yourself, your trueself, the one that lies within.

Maybe some studies along the lines of Non duality would enlighten you into a deeper and more profound experience of yourself and your environment. Only you can do this, in the end you have to find your path and discover your true nature.

Well, Bob routine is a part of life, so I would suggest you change part of it but not all of it. You can join groups or meet new people, you could go to a gym or do some kind of sport, you could adopt a child or do some charity work, you could get a girlfriend, study, do something adventurous. It's up to you, but routine will always be a part of life. ;(

You need a purpose, something which you feel is worth living for.

There are many different ways of attaining purpose, some would say to do it through religion, some would say socializing more, others would say set targets to achieve over a set period of time and use them to motivate yourself.

Really, it's up to you to make something of yourself.

Someone's post above my post wrote: "Maybe some studies along the lines of Non duality..."

Non-duality? Are you postulating that there is no soul?
