Question:
Which comedians, famous or not, are helping to heal the world?

They say that laughter is the best medicine,
and comedians do a great job of making us
laugh at things most of us would prefer not
to even think about. Margaret Cho is such
a comedian. My grandfather was another.
Both know how to stand up for others, and
for themselves-- with a smile!

Can you name a comedian with a healing touch?

I think that is why I am such a big fan of comedy.

I would say ANY comedian that can bring a group of people together and get them laughing is healing the world, if only for a moment. Even those who can be vulgar or sometimes isolate a certain group of people, if it gets everybody laughing, including the targeted group, then that is great. The ability to laugh at yourself especially, if you are in that group, is a great thing.

Literally millions of people have been murdered in this century and other millions of people have been sent to concentration camps for what were, in the end, crude philosophical ideas (of the Marxist or Fascist variety, often).

All supposedly 'practical' men, whether they did the killing in the name of a philosophy or were the victims of men acting out a philosophy or stood at the side gawking while declaring all philosophy useless or nonsense, were as philosophical - in the sense of being moved by general arguments about what the world is and should be and how human beings should behave - as any man, except that these supposedly 'practical' men were less conscious of that fact.

In any case, it is an illusion to believe that philosophy only pertains to the goods of the mind or only is of importance to a few intellectually gifted and curious individuals:

whatever happens in society and whatever human beings consciously do and do not do to others and for themselves is based on general ideas and values that are very properly speaking philosophical, and this has been so since human beings started to think.

And part of the reason is that all men need to answer the questions what there really is, what they should and should not do, and why they believe they know things. These questions cannot be answered by any special science, and must be somehow answered by all human beings.

Bill Cosby comes to mind first.

Laurel and Hardy, Groucho, George and Gracie Burns, Jackie Gleason, and Flip Wilson still have lasting impact on humorous takes on the world, with gentle pokes at what ails ya. Throw in the Little Rascals for good measure.

And nothing like a dose of the Three Stooges to release a bit of passive-aggressive energy.

I find Eddie Izzard to be such a breath of fresh air.

Unlike most other comedians, who I feel can be really vulgar at times, he's simply there to make people laugh. His humor is right up my alley, since he's usually talking about things like history, religion, etc.

I don't know how to put it, but I feel like he's the only comedian who has bring a positive feeling to the audience when he's performing. (I mean, look at the one guy who's always on comedy central SCREAMING at us..)

First, I would have to go with Lucille Ball "I Love Lucy" and Will Ferrell "Elf". Both comedians are timeless in this context, and appeal to all ages.

My favorite comedians are:

a) Will Ferrel, especially when he was on SNL. I think he's amazing.

b) Kathy Griffin "My Life on the D-List". I love watching her interaction with her mom, other celebrities, and most of all how she never takes herself seriously. We can all learn from her imo :)

ANY person to make me laugh is a healer, regardless
